Thankful for a Great Community

Thankful for a Great Community

We’d like to send a big “thank you” to everyone who supported and attended the Hope Banquet sponsored by Love INC of Eastern Carver County on November 15th. Over 275 people gathered at Hazeltine National Golf Course for a fun evening that raised close to $40,000 for this ministry that brings hope and encouragement to those in need in our community. We are thankful for local businesses that generously support causes like this. Gold sponsor was St. Francis Regional Medical Center. Silver sponsors were Community Bank and Chaska Rotary Club. Bronze sponsors were Chaska Lions Club, Eden Trace Corporation, Exlar Corporation, Klein Bank, MFK accounting firm. Snap Fitness and Chanhassen Floral also were generous sponsors of the banquet. In addition, individuals sponsored tables and invited others to be their guests. It was fun to see so many people competitively bidding on over 80 silent auction items that were generously donated by area businesses, churches, and individuals. The auction alone generated $11,500 in funds.

We enjoyed an inspiring program that included moving stories of those whose lives have been impacted by Love INC ministries. We enjoyed music with a message of love and hope by Dan Westmoreland and four friends from St. Huberts Catholic Church. A highlight of the evening was hearing the story of local resident Bob Downs, who recently retired from teaching and coaching for the Schools of Eastern Carver County. Bob brought illustrations from years of providing foster care to over 300 children. It was inspiring to hear him share the impact that so many of the ministries of Love INC have had on the teens that have found safe and loving shelter in Bob and Sue Down’s home over the years.

It became evident as we listened and observed everything happening that evening that we are part of a unique and remarkable community. At one point we saw 18 pastors of all denominations from our community stand shoulder to shoulder across the stage, as Pastor Joel Johnson, of Westwood Church, led a prayer asking for God to use the churches of our community to show Christ’s love to those in need. The evening ended as everyone took out wallets and checkbooks and made personal commitments to support the ministry of Love INC so that more people in the community will be touched by this amazing thing called love. Others committed to pray for the ministry, and some offered to serve as volunteers. We are thankful to one and all for your support of this effort that is transforming our community in the name of Christ.

Sincerely,

Doug Peterson, Love INC Executive Director
